High Definition Video Conferencing
The UMBC offers High Definition Video Conferencing capability that connects the four campuses and can be used to collaborate
with others across the US or around the world. Funded by a grant from NASA, the equipment was purchased to allow
researchers and students overcome physical distance and more readily engage the global community of life science. This
equipment enables University of Missouri researchers to engage in the creation and maintenance of collaborative networks across
the four campuses, across the state and around the world, to facilitate knowledge sharing, and to develop synergistic research
and educational partnerships.
The equipment by LifeSize uses the h.323 communications protocol and h.264 video
protocol (as well as support for h.263 for
backwards compatibility), and provides HD resolution and 30 FPS at 1100 kbps. These particular units are also optioned
to support 6 sites without the need for an external master control unit. This state of the art equipment is both
complicated and expensive. To assure a quality experience for the end-user, the necessary technical support and advance
testing of the connections between the sites involved in the conference is provided at each campus. For more information
or to schedule the equipment, please contact:
